Make a date with yourself

What if you are tired of reading about goals and goal setting because you just don’t know what you want to do next? How do you go about finding what sets your heart on fire?

Julia Cameron in her wonderful book The Artist’s Way tells us to made a date with ourselves, even if for a half an hour, and go look at something or someplace that feeds our creativity.  This is not intended to be a costly affair.  I costs nothing to look.

Here a a few places that feed my soul: Milwaukee Art Museum,a decorating shop like Expo or The Great Indoors, a yarn store, the library, or a pretty walk.  In the warmer weather, it is my bike.

What places speak to you?  What places do you visit time and again?  Once again, write them down in your journal — they are trying to tell you something!

Go into your head

In these times of turmoil, it might be helpful to take a few minutes each  day and design the “perfect” next phase of your life.  Here are  three questions that will get you started:

  1. What do you see when you wake up?
  2. What colors would you like around you?
  3. What kind of shoes will you put on first thing in the morning — or will you be barefoot?

Write your answers in a notebook — they may come in handy later!

Taking the first step…

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:55 pm

The old Chinese saying “A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.” certainly describes the process of  making changes in our lives.  The critical step is the first one — just do something.  Maybe you can make a list of what you would like to do — not do it, make a list.  Perhaps you could look for a book or online story about someone who has made a similar change.  The entire idea is to start small, but in the direction you think you might like to go.

I have never blogged about this topic that is so close to my heart.  Today I decided it was about time and here is my first step.
